Mariel is an Associate Attorney at Baker Law Group, PLLC, focusing her practice on criminal defense, family law, labor and employment, and civil rights matters. She began her legal career clerking for a District Court Judge, Lily W. Oeffler, in Jefferson County from 2021 to 2022, then spent four years as a Deputy Public Defender with the Colorado State Public Defender's Arapahoe Regional Office. There, she represented clients in cases ranging from low-level misdemeanors to first-degree murder, sexual assault, and charges brought under Colorado's organized crime statute, trying over 20 cases and first-chairing the majority of them. While in law school, Mariel served as a student attorney in the Civil Practice Clinic, representing indigent individuals in labor and employment disputes.

I've stood next to clients on some of the hardest days of their lives ā facing charges that threaten their freedom, their families, or their future. Over 20 trials taught me that real advocacy means knowing the law inside and out, but it also means never losing sight of the person sitting next to me at the counsel table.
